in the beginning...

Today it all started again... back to reality for the designer:)
After a miraculous intervention from God, a project that involved spending an entire year of research to the impact of interiors on children and their development through play. What an honour to be relevant in society during a year where one can get caught up in work so quickly...

The project will focus on designing a Science Centre situated in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape, South Africa that will benefit the direct surrounding community as well as the larger Eastern Cape area. The role of the designer is to address all aspects of a relevant design to the function and context of the situation. The design will be focused on creating a space that is sustainable and made from reused and recycled waste in the area such as from the Volkswagen timber containers.

Due to the designers feminine design philosophy of creating a 'place' of what was once just a 'space' and creating a universal design that captures the emotions of human interaction within architecture, the Science Centre under discussion will take on a design that is suited to all genders, races and cultures. The stigma of 'Science being hard and boring' will be challenged to ensure a successful and exciting space that reconnects the broken relational bonds between child and parent in a society largely subject to alcohol abuse as well as abuse to women and children. The Science Centre will aim at allowing a child from a poorer background to become aware of the feasibility and the equal opportunity that is available to them, regardless of the circumstances surrounding them.

A space that is child friendly and child inspiring. A place where children can be 'lost' from the hardships and loneliness that may be threatening outside the safety of the building walls... May this be a place where opportunity will be grasped and greatness be strived for..

May design become relevant to the situation of our country...
